Coquitlam's Eagle Ridge Outdoor Pool now has some accessible options so all patrons can enjoy the swimming facility.

Everybody in the pool!

Coquitlam's Eagle Ridge Outdoor Pool has now been made more accessible to residents of all abilities as part of the city's agenda to break barriers so its amenities are enjoyed by all.

This week, the city's recreation department added new features to the public swimming pool so that disabled patrons can splash in the water too.

This includes a 10-metre accessibility ramp, a transfer lift and a water wheelchair.

"Accessibility is built into the planning, development and delivery of all city programs, events, facilities and neighbourhoods, through regulation, policy and input from relevant stakeholders and users," says Coquitlam community recreation manager Vinh Truong in a release on Tuesday (June 8).

The ramp provides a slope into Eagle Ridge's water for those who prefer or require gradual entry into the pool.

The water wheelchair is specifically designed for use in or around the pool, the city explains, and a mechanical lift will help those who wish to use the chair to transfer into it. An aide or accompanying support person must also perform the transfer.

The city adds, if you wish to use any of the new amenities, residents are asked to let on-site staff know and "they will make the equipment available for use."

Coquitlam's recreation department adds the new adapted options must comply with current COVID-19 public health orders, including pre-registration 48 hours in advance.

For more information, visit the pool's page on the city's website.

Eagle Ridge Outdoor Pool is located at the intersection of Lansdowne Drive and Guildford Way, and consists of eight swimming lanes at 25 metres, two diving boards, large change rooms and a grass picnic area.
