Those looking to chip their Christmas trees in Port Coquitlam have a place to go, thanks to Port Coquitlam Fire & Emergency Services.

Local smoke eaters will hold their annual charity tree chip on the weekend of Jan. 8 and 9, 2022.

There are two ways to dispose of your tree:

• Drop Off: January 8-9, 2022, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the #1 Fire Hall (1725 Broadway St.). The minimum donations is $5 with all proceeds to benefit the Port Coquitlam Fire Fighters Charitable Society.

Firefighters donate their time for this event and all wood chips created are used in city parks and trails.

• Pick-Up: Save yourself the hassle of dropping off your tree and have a firefighter pick it up. Forms are available online here. Then just leave your tree at the curb.

The firefighters will come pick up your tree with a minimum $10 donation. The application deadline is Jan. 5 — any requests made after that date may not be able to be accommodated.

As well, you can also dispose of your Christmas tree in the green cart.

Trees without any tinsel or chemical sprays can be chopped up and placed in green carts in pieces that are up to 3″ in diameter and 40″ long.

More information is available on the City of Port Coquitlam's website.
