Re: Coquitlam park neighbours fed up with ‘annoying’ pickleball noise (Jan. 27, 2022)

I am a 72-year-old pickleball player and have been playing for about four years.

I do it for my health as do most seniors that I play with.

I have been a diabetic for 24 years and since playing pickleball, my sugar levels have been normal.

As the sport grows, it is more difficult to find empty courts to play on. Since COVID-19 started, about 60 players playing three times a week have been displaced from the [Poirier] Forum, using the facility for vaccinations, which of course is more important.

It was just closed down again two weeks ago as they now need it for booster shots, which is also important.

As the weather gets warmer, most of us will be playing outside and at Blue Mountain.

I am also a member of the PoCoMo Club (now over 300 members) and Coquitlam was very generous in giving us four dedicated Courts at Bramble Park which was used every day in the summer.

The problem is we do need more dedicated pickleball courts or an indoor facility for pickleball only or shared with other sports.

I am also a curler and four years ago, the Coquitlam curling rink was shut down displacing many curlers and lots of them quit having no where else to go that was convenient.

What are the active seniors supposed to do?

Perhaps this Connie Ball should take up pickleball and she wouldn't have all that time on her hands to complain and maybe have a healthier life.
