Flood and wind alerts for Squamish area

A torrential storm is pummelling the Howe Sound area.
Nov. 15 flooding
There's been so much rain in Squamish that most trails are seeing flooding, including this trail behind the Squmaish Skate Park.

It is a good day to bring out your best rain gear if you have to head outdoors, Squamish.

Torrential rains have prompted the District of Squamish to issue a flood watch alert.

As of Nov. 15, a flood watch was also issued by the River Forecast Centre for Howe Sound and Sea to Sky.

In turn, the District determined that the levels and forecast are sufficient to warrant an alert. Heavy rain will continue through Monday morning and peak river flows can be expected throughout the day.

Authorities are urging people to be alert for water pooling on roads and washouts. Stay clear of fast‐flowing creeks and rivers and potentially unstable riverbanks. The River Forecast Centre continues to monitor the conditions and will provide updates as conditions warrant, reads the District alert.

In the meantime, Environment Canada has also issued a wind warning for this afternoon.

Southerly gusts are expected to reach 70 to 90 kilometres per hour in the Howe Sound area.
