Fancy a trip to Tofino? Online auction opens Monday for Coquitlam arts hub

Bidding opens Monday (Oct. 24) for the Place des Arts' sixth annual online auction.

Fresh off the heels of the Amanda Todd Legacy Society fundraiser comes another online auction for a non-profit organization: Place des Arts.

The Coquitlam arts facility is hosting its sixth annual outreach, with the aim to raise $10,000 to support low-barrier and inclusive arts programs at the Maillardville venue.

Bidding starts on Monday, Oct. 24 at 9 a.m. and ends on Friday, Nov. 4 at 9 p.m.

Like the Amanda Todd Legacy Society drive, the Place des Arts’ online auction will also be hosted through the website 32auctions.com.

Organizer Vishakha Uppoor, the facility’s development coordinator, said the auction is being held in a milestone year for Place des Arts — it’s marking its 50th year.

And, with the COVID-19 pandemic easing, the venue is able to offer travel and cultural experience packages for bidders to consider.

In total, Place des Arts is offering 50 items — worth a total of $11,000 in fair-market value — that include:

  • Round-trip for two from Vancouver to Tofino (Pacific Coastal Airlines)
  • VIA Rail $500 travel credit
  • Two-night stay at Water’s Edge Resort in Ucluelet
  • Victoria Getaway Bundle (Il Terrazzo & Best Western Plus Carlton Plaza Hotel)
  • Marmot Basin Jasper SkyTram

As well, there’s a winery tour and tasting, tickets to a BC Lions game, personal health care packages and four rounds of golf at the Westwood Plateau executive course.

“We’ve had many great donors,” Uppoor told the Tri-City News.

To place a bid, go to 32auctions.com/placedesarts between Oct. 24 and Nov. 4. Bidders must be 18 or older.

50–50 DRAWS IN 2022–23

Meanwhile, to celebrate the 50th anniversary, Place des Arts is hosting a total of four 50–50 draws over the next year. The next round starts in November via trellis.org/placedesarts5050.
