A banner like this one will be set up in New Westminster on Thursday.

People opposed to the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project are stepping up their protests in New Westminster.

Organizers will be dropping huge banners today (Thursday) at the north end of the Queensborough Bridge calling for immediate end to the Trans Mountain project.

“Despite these dangerous conditions, and a clear link between burning fossil fuels the climate change which is pushing these extreme weather events, the Trudeau government continues to back the TMX pipeline,” said Climate Convergence organizer Thomas Davies. “This exposes once again that this government that once claimed to be a 'climate leader' has no regard for people or the planet, and no plans to address the climate emergency.”

Special focus will be given to Trans Mountain's work building a pipeline tunnel from Burnaby Mountain to the Westridge Marine Terminal in Burnaby on the Burrard Inlet.

A different protest is set to take place in Burnaby this morning at the Hastings office of Burnaby North-Seymour MP Terry Beech. Organizers say they will hand over a fire extinguisher to highlight climate change-induced wildfires in B.C.
