An anti-pipeline activist group will be holding a protest at Lougheed Highway and Willingdon Avenue this afternoon.
The "intersection protest action" will be held next to Brentwood SkyTrain station between 4:30 and 6 p.m.
Climate Convergence, which describes itself as a "grassroots climate justice coalition," will set up signs, banners and an information table for people to learn about the Trans-Mountain pipeline expansion and the climate crisis.
“As the countdown to the United Nations Climate Change Conference being held in the beginning of November in Glasgow begins, the government of Canada is again trying to promote itself internationally as a ‘leader on climate action." Nothing could be farther from the truth," said Climate Convergence central organizer Alison Bodine in a press release. "Disregarding both public health and the health of the planet, as well as Indigenous rights, they continue to try and ram the TMX Tar Sands pipeline construction through B.C. and Alberta."
Bodine continued: “Meanwhile, Minister of Environment and Climate Change Johnathan Wilkinson cynically claims we somehow need to expand fossil fuels to fund the transition away from them. We are gathered today to express our outrage at the continued status-quo climate disaster and demand that the Trudeau government cancel the TMX pipeline and end all construction immediately."
Organizers say it will be a socially distant and masked action.
