A “relatively minor” 4.3-magnitude earthquake occurred at 2:04 a.m. Wednesday off the northwest coast of Vancouver Island, says Natural Resources Canada earthquake seismologist John Cassidy.
There were no reports of it being felt on shore, and no tsunami will result, he said.
Cassidy said it was about 180 kilometres off Brooks Peninsula, southwest of Port McNeill.
“It a very active region,” he said. “It’s where the active faults are on the sea floor.”
The quake was five to 10 kilometres deep, Cassidy said.
