A recent crackdown on unsafe commercial vehicles on Richmond’s roads led to 62 violation tickets being issued, with 29 of them being taken off the road.

On Monday, a joint operation including Richmond RCMP’s Road Safety Unit (RSU) resulted in 33 commercial vehicles being inspected, of which 29 were “placed out of service,” which happens when the vehicle or load its carrying need to be fixed immediately.

“Being part of this initiative is extremely important to us as commercial vehicles can cross through multiple cities throughout the Lower Mainland in one day,” said Cpl. Rob Park, NCO in-charge of the RSU.

“These vehicles are often carrying large and heavy loads which, if not properly secured, pose a significant risk to the public.”

Monday’s operation included Richmond’s RSI, City of Richmond Bylaws, Delta Police, Burnaby RCMP and the City of Surrey’s Commercial Vehicle Inspection Unit.

“Richmond is a major hub for commercial vehicle traffic and ensuring the safety of all motorists remains a top priority for Richmond RCMP,” added Park.

“As such, Richmond RCMP RSU will continue working with its partner agencies to ensure commercial vehicle operators are complying with the rules and regulations put in place to keep people and our roadways safe.”
