Belcarra author Diana J. Drake will sign copies of her latest novel for youth, titled Ren's Treasure, at Chapters (38-2991 Lougheed Hwy., Coquitlam) starting at 3 p.m. The work of fiction, which weaves in Tsleil-Waututh Nation stories, is geared for children ages nine to 13.

LIGHT BRIGADE

Help the City of Coquitlam’s Park Spark light brigade build lit elements for the annual celebration at Town Centre Park: Lights at Lafarge, which opens Nov. 26. Workshops will be held today from 3 to 5 p.m. and Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Inspiration Garden in the park (3091-3099 Guildford Way, Coquitlam).

PUMPKIN WALK

Talk a walk around the courtyard at Miller Park Community School (800 Egmont Ave., Coquitlam) where the Parent Advisory Council has a Halloween pumpkin walk featuring decorated pumpkins carved by the students. The event is accessible and runs from 6 to 9 p.m. and admission is by donation. It is sponsored by Save On Foods (Cameron).

WONDERFUL LIFE

Port Moody’s mayor-elect Meghan Lahti is part of a radio play this weekend staged by the Ioco Players. It’s a Wonderful Life runs tonight and Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. — and Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. ­— at the Inlet United Church at The Springs (2315 Spring St., Port Moody). The show, written by Joe Landry, is told in a 1940s-style radio broadcast format under the artistic direction of Mike Arseneault. Tickets are $25 via eventbrite.ca, or $30 at the door if available.

THAT SIBLING

The story of Maria Anna Mozart — aka Nannerl — and her very famous brother, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, as they tour around Europe is told through Mozart and Her Brother, a play developed by Mark Weatherley and Masae Day that explores their rivalry. Directed by Garrett Quirk, the show is performed by Day and Jenny Andersen; it runs at the Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam) tonight and Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m., with a Saturday matinee at 3 p.m. Tickets are $45/$38/$16.

ART SHOW

Celebrate the opening of two new exhibitions at Place des Arts (1120 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam): Stitched Together, a fibre art and mixed media display by Robin Fischer, Karen Johnson and Karlie Norrish McChesney, and Industrial Remnants, a mixed media collection by Sherry Cooper. The opening reception is at 7 p.m. Both exhibitions can be seen at the Maillardville venue from Oct. 28 to Dec. 15, and online from Nov. 4 to Dec. 15.

MUSIC NIGHT

Aaron Connaughton headlines the Crossroads Coffeehouse show — a benefit for the Crossroads Hospice Society — in the Gathering Place (1100-2253 Leigh Sq., next to Port Coquitlam City Hall). Doors open at 7 p.m. with open mic beginning at 7:30 p.m. Connaughton plays at 8:50 p.m. Admission is $5.

SECOND CONCERT

The award-winning singer–songwriter Shari Ulrich of the Pied Pumkin and The Hometown Band fame welcomes ticket-holders to her "living room" for the second show in the Inlet Theatre Music series at the Inlet Theatre (inside Port Moody City Hall, 100 Newport Dr.). Doors open at 7 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. show. She will be joined by Cindy Fairbank on piano and vocals. Tickets are $30, or $40 at the door.

Saturday, Oct. 29

HERITAGE BOO

Families can head to the Mackin House Museum (1116 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam) for the Heritage Halloween extravaganza. Check out the haunted mystery train station, take a picture with a princess or super hero and make some crafts. The free event, from 1 to 3 p.m., is held outdoors. No registration is required; however, donations to the Coquitlam Heritage Society are appreciated.

HAUNTING SPIRITS
