The highly anticipated 25,000-square-foot glass-and-steel Polygon Gallery opened its doors for the first time on October 21 for a gala and art auction celebrating the culmination of its capital campaign.

The evening brought together local artists and major donors who contributed to the gallery’s vision for a waterfront landmark showcasing art spaces, and centred on an auction of works donated by artists from around the globe, which raised $800,000.

Chaired by 2016 Hasselblad Award honouree Stan Douglas, it was the first public unveiling of the sleek and contemporary space, designed by the Governor General Award-Winning Patkau Architects, who also created Whistler’s Audain Art Museum.

Known as the Presentation House Gallery for almost forty years, the new gallery, which officially opened its doors to the public on November 18, focuses mainly on photography and media-based art.
