Slopes aren't just made for skiing and snowboarding.

A one-kilometre path nestled in an old forest of snow-laden trees, and lit with thousands of twinkling lights, atop a West Vancouver mountain is opening tonight, Dec. 2.

Cypress Mountain Resort’s director of marketing, Joffrey Koema, said the event is expanding this year to allow snowshoers more room for social distancing.

“Lights to the Lodge” makes for a unique evening for families, household groups, and couples seeking an intimate and self-guided mountain experience.

The mountain trail leads to the more than 100-year-old Hollyburn Lodge, settled among First Lake’s forest, serving warm delights including hot chocolate, cookies, burgers, and beer.

Guests can then snowshoe back to the base area along a return trail that's teeming with more holiday-inspired lighting installations.

Those wanting to walk among a winter wonderland of snow and light are encouraged to check Cypress Mountain’s Nordic conditions and dress accordingly, in waterproof clothing.

The trail opens for visitors at 5 p.m. though guests are encouraged to arrive no later than 8 p.m. to ensure enough time for the snowshoe loop and lodge experience.

Tickets start at $34 per adult, which includes the cost of snowshoe rentals. Once available, they can be purchased here.

COVID-19 health and safety measures will be in place, Koema assured.
