HOME IDEAS: Wrap your gifts with some extra jingle this year

It’s easy to overlook Christmas wrapping paper, but it’s worth putting in the effort to find something nice – the first impression of the gift is just as important as the gift itself. So this year why not try your hand at a little D.I.Y.

It’s easy to overlook Christmas wrapping paper, but it’s worth putting in the effort to find something nice – the first impression of the gift is just as important as the gift itself.

So this year why not try your hand at a little D.I.Y. gift wrap? Here are some ideas that are very easy and will surely impress even the most discerning of gift recipients.

Jingle bells
This is a really cute idea for a simple and modern gift-wrap. All you will need is some glossy, white wrapping paper, a thin ribbon (red, silver or gold), some garden twine and miniature bells. All items are available at your local craft store.

Wrap your gift in the plain, white paper and set aside. Cut a piece of the thin ribbon and wrap the left-hand side of the gift with the ribbon approximately three centimetres from the edge of the gift. Cut a piece of garden twine approximately 10 cm long (or shorter depending on the size of your gift). Tie a bell to each end of the twine and make a bow. Glue the bow and bells to the upper edge of the ribbon on the gift.

Miniature wreath
If you are fortunate enough to have a cedar tree in your yard then this gift-wrap idea is for you. Alternatively you can purchase boughs of cedar from your local nursery.

Wrap a small gift in plain, brown paper. Cut very small pieces of cedar from your bough and glue in a circular pattern on the topside of the gift to form the shape of a wreath. Or, another cute version is to make the shape of a star with the cedar pieces in the center of the gift. Finish the gift off with a miniature bead or star in the centre of the cedar pieces.

Black and white photographs
I saw this idea at Christmastime a few years ago and thought it was a great idea for friends and family. Gather up some favourite photos of your friends and family members and have them printed in black and white. Wrap your gifts in plain brown paper and glue the photo to the front of the gift. Add some black ribbon for a nice, decorative effect.

Miniature Cookie Cutters
If you are looking for a quick and easy gift-wrap idea, this one is for you. Wrap your gift in your favorite Christmas wrap. I find solid colours work best for this idea. Tie a co-ordinating satin or organza ribbon around the gift and attach a cute cookie cutter.
