And just like that, summer’s gone. Next up: Thanksgiving Day. This year, decorate your Thanksgiving table with flair.

Your table setting can play a large role in creating the perfect ambience for your guests and there are many ways to create a beautiful table setting while combining old traditions with new. Gone are the days where the standard orange and brown colour scheme dominated the Thanksgiving table.

Try branching out and creating a unique and whimsical table setting idea to wow your guests.

I love the new trend of using gold. You will see it in everything from kitchen faucets, bathroom accessories and table flatware. Gold flatware is stunning set against a white tablecloth. A pared down, gold and white colour palette keeps things simple yet sophisticated. Metallic votives will give the table a pop of glitz. Scatter white pillar candles accented with twine and fresh herbs for a bit of rustic glam.

If you would prefer to go green this year, there are many ways to create a relaxed look with fresh ivy, ferns and other greens from your garden. Combine your greens with gold accents and berries and white pillar candles. Incorporate deep tones and earthy elements with pinecones and twigs. Explore the use of wood in the form of chargers and serving platters. Citrus always adds an unexpected modern element.

Set up your Thanksgiving buffet so that the setting is warm and inviting but keep the focus on the food. Celebrate the beauty of simplicity by mixing white pumpkins, green apples and white pillar candles all displayed on a mirrored tray. The tray will add that little bit of unexpected glamour to an otherwise rustic display.

Be creative with your serving dishes. Large glass jars with lids make wonderful serving containers for salads. Wicker baskets, mason jars and small terra cotta pots are all great ways to serve your bread, desserts and condiments.

Don’t be afraid to mix faux with real. Faux fruit and artificial garlands may all be used in conjunction with fresh flowers to give your table the perfect ambience for Thanksgiving.
