Ring in the new year with some dazzling homemade decorations. With a little planning you can take your New Year’s Eve celebrations to new heights.

Here are a few ideas for a New Year’s party that are simple to assemble and most of the materials may be found in your local dollar store.

Holiday tinsel balls
For this idea you will need an assortment of clear, plastic ball ornaments. I found a few in Michaels crafts in different sizes. You will also require some silver and gold tinsel. These clear balls look amazing grouped together in a bowl on a table or placed inside large clear cylinder vases. Simply cut small pieces of silver or gold tinsel and place them inside the clear balls. Scatter tea lights around the vases for an added effect.

Recycled Christmas wrapping tissue
Make sure to keep all your wrapping paper and holiday tissue. If you snip them into small squares you can use them as confetti for your New Year’s Eve celebration.

Sparkler toothpicks
Another great use for silver tinsel is to make sparkler toothpick toppers. Simply cut very small pieces of silver tinsel and glue them to the tops of wooden toothpicks. They look like miniature sparklers when they are finished. Group them together in small containers by your New Year’s Eve buffet or place individual toothpicks on top of cupcakes.

Hershey’s midnight kisses
I saw this idea at a New Year’s Eve party and I thought it was very creative. The bottom of a Hershey’s Kiss is attached with a personalized new year’s message for each recipient. Purchase a package of silver-foiled Hershey’s Kisses. Order a package of labels from avery.ca, such as the multi-purpose adhesive three-quarter inch labels, for the bottoms of the chocolates or you can make your own with adhesive paper.

If you order the Avery labels you can print the messages out on your home printer easily and quickly. Attach your customized labels to the bottom of the chocolates and place them on display in a clear vase or apothecary jar for your guests to help themselves at the stroke of midnight.

Happy new year!
