Two Vancouver-based rabbit advocacy groups are joining forces to kick off their inaugural Easter celebration.

Presented by Rabbitats Rescue Society and Vancouver Rabbit Rescue and Advocacy, the Easter Bunny Bunanza aims to familiarize the public with the animal with petting and feeding activities and information on proper rabbit care.

A course will also be set up for rabbit agility demonstrations.

Founder of Rabbitats Rescue Society, Sorelle Saidman said above all the event is meant to bring a greater awareness of rabbit adoption and the realities of owning a pet.

“We want people to know they are sweet friendly awesome little pets. But we also want them to know what it takes to have a rabbit as a pet,” she said.

Saidman encourages prospective owners to adopt rescue rabbits rather than buying them from pet stores.

“That way if it doesn't work out, you can always take the bunny back. And the rabbit will already be spayed or neutered and checked over for health issues,” she said.

Event participants can expect “all things bunny” including bunny-themed crafts, baked goods and a “meet ’n treat,” where curious participants can feed the rabbits.

The Easter Bunny Bunanza takes place April 21, noon to 3:30 p.m. at Vancouver’s Ukrainian Hall, 805 East Pender St.

Rabbit owners can also bring their rabbits to play with the others. All rabbits participating are vaccinated.
