The BC SPCA on the Sunshine Coast is launching a new low-income spay/neuter program.

The BC SPCA on the Sunshine Coast is launching a new low-income spay/neuter program. Made possible with funding from the Sunshine Coast Foundation, the program will help vulnerable pet owners in the community.

“Throughout the pandemic we have seen an increased need for support in the community that we are now able to address,” says Marika Donnelly, manager at the Sunshine Coast BC SPCA. “Building on our pet food bank program that has helped keep animals fed as their owners go through challenging times, we are now able to offer further support.”

Donnelly adds that the partnerships built with local social service organizations through the pet food bank program help connect the program with those in need.

Along with health and behavioural benefits to the cats who receive this care, the spay/neuter program lowers vet bills for financially struggling guardians and keeps their animals in their loving homes.

In addition to the surgery, pets will be microchipped and receive a year's registration for the BC Pet Registry. For program information and application forms, please contact the BC SPCA Sunshine Coast Branch at 604-740-0301 or sunshinecoast@spca.bc.ca.
