Kudos: Richmond students send cards, toys to hospitals in B.C.

More than 300 cards and gifts were donated to hospitals in December.

Students at McMath secondary donated a total of 161 homemade thank you cards to frontline healthcare workers at Richmond Hospital, and 165 gifts to children at BC Children’s Hospital as part of a student-led club initiative.

Richmond Hope For Hospitals' (RHFH), a student club at McMath secondary, one goal is to raise money for local hospitals and healthcare centres.

Kelsey Gee, a student with RHFH, said they wanted to show their gratitude and support for the “brave heroes” and those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This year has been particularly difficult for everyone, but even more so for frontline healthcare workers, seniors in long-term care, and hospitalized patients," said Gee.

In order to support them, she said, the club ran a gift donation and card making drive at McMath secondary with a goal of collecting 60 cards and 50 gifts.

And with the support from community members, gifts and cards tumbled in and doubled RHFH's original donation goal.

"RHFH never could have imagined that the end result would have been so fruitful," said Gee.

“RHFH is tremendously grateful and proud to be part of such a generous and supportive community that cares for one another, and hopes these initiatives bring just as much joy to the healthcare workers and children as they did for them."
