Kudos: Richmond resident makes, delivers cards to seniors with help from non-profit

A total of 500 cards were made by student volunteers.

Everyone, especially seniors, is in need of some uplifting words, and one Richmond resident did just that.

Earlier this year, Celeste Ng, recipient of a $200 Responsive Neighbourhood Small Grant, decided to use the grant to create handmade greeting cards for local seniors with the help of volunteers.

A total of 500 cards were made from students at James Cook elementary, but Ng did not know how to get the cards safely to seniors.

Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives (RCRG) – who also manages the Neighbourhood Small Grants – lent a hand to Ng through their Seniors Community Support Services which helps deliver groceries to seniors.

Ed Gavsie, CEO of RCRG, said while volunteers included a card for each senior as they filled out grocery shopping orders at PriceSmart.

“A huge thank you to Celeste and students at Cook Elementary for letting seniors know that, even while we’re staying apart, the community is still thinking of them and wishing them well,” said Gavsie.
