Students and staff at a local afterschool childcare program in Quilchena collected and donated a big box of non-perishable food items to support the Richmond Food Bank on Monday.

Staff and students at Creatively Crafted Childcare worked together to donate the items after talking about how COVID-19 has made it difficult for many people to put food on their tables.

“We began talking about all the food we eat at home and how fortunate we are to have so much,” said Jessy Bal, childcare coordinator at Creatively Crafted Childcare.

“With COVID-19 happening, we know that some grown-ups are not working and this makes it hard to buy food sometimes.”

Bal highlighted the students’ efforts in collecting the food items for their donation.

“A huge thank you must go out to all The Chill Zone students for working so well as a group to collect the food,” she said.

On Monday, the items were delivered to the firefighters in the Ironwood neighbourhood who will then bring the items to the Richmond Food Bank Society.

“Also, a thank you to the firefighters for spending their weekend helping those in need!”
