Radon and thermal-leak kits are now part of the FVRL lendable collection.

Port Coquitlam residents can now borrow home-testing kits from the Terry Fox Library.

Radon and thermal-leak detectors were recently added to the playground lending collection of the Fraser Valley Regional Library (FVRL) network, which includes 25 member library branches.

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that's found in all buildings — including homes.

Funded in part by B.C.'s Ministry of Municipal Affairs, the kits allow library users to check for radon exposure levels and leaky seals in their homes; the kits are free to borrow for FVRL card holders.

"The vibrant health of our communities and community members is important — and so is the health of the planet we share," said FVRL spokesperson Heather Scoular in a news release.

"The world is changing and we are excited to offer new tools to help our customers adapt."

On March 29, you can learn more about radon via an online event with Dr. Anne-Marie Nicol, an associate professor at SFU’s faculty of health sciences, and Alan Whitehead, president and CEO of Radon Environmental Management Corp.

For more information, you can visit the event's page on the FVRL website.

You can also visit the organization's website to learn more on borrowing radon or thermal-leak detector kits.
