Leading up to Remembrance Day, Western Canada Theatre’s production of Vimy will be presented in the Grosvenor Theatre at Kay Meek Arts Centre on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 3 at 3 p.m.

Set in a field hospital in France just before Canadian forces attacked the German army at Vimy Ridge the epic memory play is based on journals, diaries and memoirs of nurses and soldiers and touches on themes of national identity on both Canadian and Indigenous history and the impact of war on a personal level.

James MacDonald directed the premiere at the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton in 2007 and he’s remounting Vern Thiessen’s play to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1.
