“Revolution,” the first track recorded for what would become the “White Album,” was written by John Lennon in India in early 1968.
Different versions of the song exist, including a promotional video shot at Twickenham Film Studios with Michael Lindsay-Hogg.
This ‘hard rock’ iteration appeared as the ‘B’ side on the “Hey Jude” single. Several versions of “Revolution” are included on The Beatles (White Album) 50th Anniversary Edition, a six-CD set released this month.
The original double album came out on Apple Records in the U.K. on Nov. 22, 1968 and a few days later on Nov. 25 in North America. Visit nsnews.com/entertainment for Chris O’Dell’s memories of working at Apple Records during this time.
