Mazacote, featuring Nicaraguan singer/songwriter David Lopez on vocals/guitar, Carlos Arias on bass, Chris Couto on timbales, Robin Layne on congas, Niho Takase on keys and Malcolm Aiken on trumpet, performed a free gig at Lynn Valley Village on Sunday, June 24 as part of the North Shore Jazz component of the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival. The six-piece band has deep roots in the musical traditions of Nicaragua, Mozambique and Colombia with heavy emphasis on Afro-Caribbean rhythms.
