Elizabeth Shepherd officially launches her new album, MONtréal, in Vancouver on Sunday, March 10 with two shows in the Murray Adaskin Salon at the Canadian Music Centre (837 Davie St., Vancouver) at 7 and 8:845 p.m.
The music and accompanying videos in her latest project pay homage to the culture and history of specific Montréal neighbourhoods.
Research and writing of “La boxe” was initiated after Shepherd learned that the historic Atwater Market in Le Plateau-Mont-Royal had been through many transformations over the years. At one point it operated as a boxing ring and the musician contacted boxer Deano Clavet to learn more about its history.
The video for the track was made with Stéfan Verna and features Deano Clavet with Shepherd and her band and a shout out to the “Canadian cinema classic Golden Gloves (ONF / NFB) and artist Gene Pendon!”
