'Crazy how big it got!': Footage shows dust devil swirling in B.C. village (VIDEO)

It's a time of year when Interior residents start preparing for floods and fires: should tornados also be on that list?

Probably not. But a small whirlwind in Chase this week certainly made it look like a tornado was brewing.

The video, posted April 24 by Nova Finn, looks like a scene out of Twister (albeit an early part of the movie).

The footage shows a dust devil swirling in a parking lot along Coburn Street, a few metres wide and stretching higher than any nearby telephone poles or trees.

"Crazy how big it got!" says Finn in the description.

"I haven't seen that here before," adds a voice in the video.

Dust devils are formed when in ideal conditions an updraft begins to rotate. They're typically harmless.
