People who received one or two doses of a coronavirus vaccine outside of the province may run into issues getting their BC Vaccine Card in 2021.

People who received one or two doses of a coronavirus vaccine outside of B.C. may run into issues getting their provincial vaccine card.

The BC Vaccine Card is a digital or printed document that shows the stage people are at in their COVID-19 vaccine progress. It will show whether they've had one dose, two doses, or if no record is found.

As of Oct. 24, people aged 12 and older are required to show proof of two doses of vaccine for entry to a broad range of discretionary events and businesses throughout the province. People can get either save a digital copy of their card to their mobile device or print a hard copy to present along with their government-issued photo identification.

The booster shot is not required at this time to be considered fully vaccinated.

But not every fully-vaccinated British Columbian has been able to download the digital document.

Some locals who received one or both doses of a vaccine outside of B.C. say they've run into problems downloading their BC Vaccine Card.

Jill Nessel, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport, tells Vancouver Is Awesome that the immunization effort is the largest in B.C.'s history, with more than 7.7 million doses of vaccines administered. And while some individuals are running into issues, she says these incidents aren't common.

"The provincial team is creating incident tickets for individuals who have experienced vaccine record complications for follow-up to resolve these issues as quickly as possible," she explains.

People who run into challenges should submit their documents online with the government to ensure their record is up to date.

"Once they do, their documents will be reviewed and the immunization record will be updated," she said.

New and returning B.C. residents vaccinated outside of B.C. must use this service to submit their vaccine records to obtain a BC Vaccine Card, noted Niessel. The process takes under five minutes and "every effort will be made" to add them to your vaccine record within four to seven days (it may take longer due to high volumes, however).

"For those who have had difficulties obtaining their BC Vaccine Card on time, we advise that you call 1-833-838-2323 or reach out to Service BC who can help expedite the process for you," added Niessel.

New residents to B.C. may continue to use their immunization records from outside of the province until they can access their BC Vaccine Cards.
