More than 100 years ago, there were many independent dairies in North Vancouver.

It was quite common to see dairies operating within city limits supplying fresh, unpasteurized milk, cream, and butter, which was delivered directly to local residents and retail grocery stores.

This photo from 1913 shows a North Vancouver Dairy horse-drawn delivery wagon. According to city directories, at the time that this photo was taken William H. Wilkins was the proprietor, though the dairy had many different owners over the 20 or so years it was in operation.

A “For Sale” classified ad found in a 1918 edition of the Vancouver Sun states that North Vancouver Dairy was located at 133 East Fifth St.
