According to the July 7, 1911 edition of The Express newspaper, bandmaster Robert Chance formed the band around 1910.

Initially, only three members formed the nucleus of the band, however by the time this photo first appeared on the front page of The Express, the total enrolment of the band was up to 35 musicians.  The band played regular concerts at locations around the North Shore, such as the Hotel North Vancouver, Victoria Park, and Lynn Valley Park (now known as Lynn Canyon Park).
