The following is a selection of volunteer opportunities from various community organizations, made available through Volunteer North Shore, a service of North Shore Community Resources Society.

One to One Tutor Looking for those who have two-three hours a week during school hours to work one-on-one with students. Volunteer tutors read once a week, either in the mornings or afternoons, at a specific school, from October to June. Volunteers will develop a relationship with the students that will help them bloom into successful readers.

One to One Companion Volunteers are needed to visit with independent seniors to share time onsite – walks, talk, and games. Mutually agreeable days and times to be arranged.

Big Brother Big Brothers are men over the age of 18 who provide fun and friendship for boys, ages seven-12 who have limited-to-no contact with their fathers. Big and Little Brothers do a wide variety of no-cost/low-cost activities of their choice: hiking, biking, swimming, movies, listening to music, hanging out; spending two-four hours a week together for one year.

Red Cross Loan Program Volunteer The Red Cross Loan Program offers the North Shore a short term loan of health equipment such as mobility and bath aids. Volunteers are needed to join the team, covering a four hour shift once a week.

Fringe Festival Volunteer The Vancouver Fringe Festival is looking for volunteers for a variety of positions from ticket sellers to ushers to site crew to bartenders, and a whole lot more. So no matter what your area of interest, there will be a volunteer position that is just right for you.
