North Vancouver’s favourite traffic-circle-sprucer-upper has outdone himself, crafting a special sign of the times during the COVID-19 era.
Dave Rawson is famous in his neighbourhood for decorating the traffic circle at Moody Avenue and 16th Street. He’s been at it for nearly 15 years, with fun designs that can include anything from hearts for Valentine’s Day, a moose in a Santa hat reminding people not to drink and drive, and wooden birthday cakes for Canada Day.
He spends countless hours crafting signs and displays for the circle while also tending to the plants, using a combination of his own supplies, contributions from the City of North Vancouver and donations from neighbours to make the community space shine.
His latest creation brings in one of history’s most famous bossy pants, Lucy van Pelt, to smilingly relay the important safety messages of the day. The new sign includes a board stretching six feet to show proper physical distancing protocols for the COVID-19 pandemic, messages such as “Stay Safe – Stay Home”; “Don’t Touch Your Face”; “Wash Your Hands”; as well as the all-important thank you to service industry and health-care workers.
