Reader Glen Mellis sent in this cool photo taken by family friend Jade Watson on a water skiing run last month near Deep Cove.

Mellis, born and raised in North Vancouver, says he used to be a competitive water skier but now he just enjoys ripping around for fun and teaching his children and their pals how to ski and boat safely. His family has been water skiing in the Deep Cove area for three generations, since the late 1960s, Mellis says.

His best tip learned over the years of skiing in Deep Cove: “The one thing that has stayed the same is that the best water and conditions are still very early in the morning.”

This photo was taken near Beachview Drive in a section of the water the family calls “the home stretch,” a fitting name as it leads the skiers to the end of their day at the Cates Park boat launch.
