There is a new outbreak of COVID-19 in a long term care facility in Richmond, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced Thursday afternoon.

A single staff member at Richmond Lions Manor Bridgeport, at 9020 Bridgeport Road near Great Canadian Way, has tested positive for the virus.

“As you know, even a single case we treat very seriously in our health care system, and Vancouver Coastal outbreak teams are on site to help investigate and follow up on those cases,” said Henry.

An outbreak bulletin posted to Vancouver Coastal Health’s (VCH) website states that the outbreak occurred on the second floor of the facility. Restrictions were imposed on Lions Manor on Wednesday, Aug. 5.

The outbreak at Lions Manor was one of two new long-term care outbreaks reported by Henry on Thursday.

The second is at the Joseph and Rosalie Segal Family Health Centre in Vancouver, where one staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

There are now five active health care outbreaks in B.C., four in long-term care and one in acute care.

The facilities are not accepting visitors at this time due to their outbreak status.
