Where the streets have no name, the District of North Vancouver is taking suggestions.

Residents have until Feb. 1 to submit their name suggestion for a new street being built between Fullerton Avenue and Curling Road in the upcoming Lions Gate Village.

According to the district’s website, the new street is being modelled on a Dutch-style “woonerf,” or living street, which are designed for people to share, whether they’re walking, cycling or driving.

Following consultations with residents and conducting research through the North Vancouver Museum and Archives, the district’s place naming committee recommended that council adopt Lions Lane as the name for the new street, according to the district website, before council directed them to engage in further consultation with the community.

Naming guidelines in the district dictate that new names should have, among other criteria, a strong connection to the local community, engender a positive image, and not lend themselves to inappropriate abbreviations or acronyms.

Lions Gate Village will feature a mix of different housing units, including 150 townhomes in 12 three-storey buildings slated for 2028-2067 Glenaire Dr. and up to 258 units in 19-storey and 23-storey buildings at 2010 Marine Dr. and 1633 Capilano Rd.
