Ambleside Pond is home to some of the North Shore’s most stunning and admired residents, and the pool of talent just got a little bigger – at least for a little while.

Reader John Stewart submitted a photo of West Vancouver’s resident swans and their new cygnets swimming around the body of water in Ambleside Park recently.

The District of West Vancouver is allowed to keep swans – known to be highly territorial and aggressive birds – in the park under an avicultural permit issued by the Canadian Wildlife Service.

However, those charmed by the family of swans are warned to not get too attached. Due to the small size of Ambleside Pond, it can only support two fully-grown swans at a time. If more than a pair of swans are allowed to occupy the space at a time their aggressive nature will take over until only one pair remains, according to the district.

As in previous years, the seven cygnets will be allowed to live at the pond for the next six weeks before the district has them removed to a bird sanctuary in Maple Ridge.

Take your photos now before the cygnets issue their swan song!
