The This Is Us: Diverse North Shore Photo Contest has come to a close and eight winning submissions that demonstrate the photographers’ understanding of place and belonging within their local community are now on display. The submissions will be on display in the atrium at North Vancouver City Hall until April 4 (Monday through Friday). In addition, digital displays of all the submissions to the photo contest are viewable for the next two weeks at four other locations: the District of North Vancouver municipal hall, Gleneagles Community Centre, the West Vancouver Seniors’ Activity Centre, and North Van Arts’ Cityscape Community Art Space.

St. Patrick’s Day may be over for another year, but in Lower Lonsdale the leprechauns clearly haven’t received the message. From now until March 31, the Shipyards District is playing host to an augmented reality experience with people encouraged to download an app that will let them point their smart phone at the table of one of a number of participating restaurants or pubs – and a digital leprechaun will appear on screen and jump around the table. Lighthouse, Canada’s premier rock ’n’ roll orchestra, is bringing their trademark fusion of rock, jazz and classical genre mishmashes to Kay Meek Arts Centre tonight and tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. The two-night showcase features founders Paul Hoffert and Ralph Cole along with an all-star lineup of musicians celebrating the band’s 50th anniversary. Tickets: $29-$56

More than 90 students visiting the North Shore from Yokohama High School in Japan will be presenting a Japan Fair at Brockton School in North Vancouver tomorrow from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to this free event which will feature a number of cultural activities including a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, calligraphy, kimono wearing Japanese songs and plenty of merchandise.
