You can try hide from it, but sometimes it's best just to surrender to your inner joie de vivre. The holiday season is here, folks, and The Village at Park Royal is asking you to embrace it tonight during its Light Up The Village 2018 event from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Countdown to the shopping centre’s exquisite holiday lights turning on commences at 6:45 p.m. sharp. And naturally, there will also be a 65-foot ferris wheel on site for those inclined to take a festive ride, with all proceeds earmarked for the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation.

One of the most sensible recommendations we can make for this weekend is for you to grab tickets to Capilano University’s production of Sense and Sensibility premiering tonight at 8 p.m., with additional shows tomorrow at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. The original adaption of the Jane Austen novel, put on by CapU's Exit 22 Productions, centres around two very different sisters, the free-spirited Marianne and the sensible and reserved Elinor who find themselves thrown into an unkind world when their father passes away.

As part of the West Vancouver Memorial Library’s continuing efforts to honour reconciliation, the public is invited to join weavers Chepximiya Siyam’ Janice George and Skwetsimeltxw Willard “Buddy” Joseph for an introduction to traditional Coast Salish wool weaving techniques and traditions tomorrow from 1 to 4 p.m. at the library. To register, visit westvanlibrary.ca or call the information desk at 604-925-7403.

St. Martin’s Anglican Church in North Vancouver is hosting its annual Fall Market tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Early entry is between 9 and 10 a.m. and costs $5, admission is free after 10 a.m. Lovers of baked goods, bottle trees, home décor, vintage goods and other stalls showcasing great holiday gift ideas will all be on hand.

Hello, I’m one of the five things you should do on the North Shore this weekend. Fans of Johnny Cash and music lovers alike should check out First Impressions Theatre’s ultimate celebration of the Man in Black in Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash showing tonight and tomorrow at Deep Cove Shaw Theatre. A multi-instrumental cast will perform some of Cash’s most iconic numbers, such as “I Walk the Line,” “A Boy Named Sue,” “Folsom Prison Blues” and more. Tonight’s show starts at 8 p.m., with Saturday’s matinee performance commencing at 2 p.m.
