Dr. Jane Goodall – yes, that Dr. Jane Goodall, the renowned primatologist and anthropologist – is giving a talk at Centennial Theatre tonight starting at 7 p.m. in North Vancouver. The event, presented by the Jane Goodall Institute of Canada, will feature the animal advocate and environmentalist in an intimate setting as she sounds off on protecting wildlife and empowering people. Tickets start at $80.

This weekend is your last chance to catch a free art showcase of work by the finalists of the Philip B. Lind Emerging Artist Prize at Polygon Gallery in North Vancouver. The Lind Emerging Artist Prize is awarded annually to an artist currently enrolled in a BFA or MFA program in B.C., working in the medium of film, photography or video. Catch a tour of this year’s nine nominated exhibiting artists tomorrow by meeting at the ground floor lobby at 1:55 p.m.

Erin hasn’t touched a piano since her husband died. When Elaine, a piano teacher, reacquaints her with the instrument, other major life changes follow. That’s the basic premise of The Piano Teacher, an Arts Club On Tour production showing at Kay Meek Arts Centre tonight at 7:30 p.m. and tomorrow at 3 p.m. The play, written by Dorothy Dittrich, won the 2017 Jessie Richardson Award for Outstanding Original Script. Tickets range from $19 for students to $48 for adults.

Starting today and running until Monday, Grouse Mountain Resort is hosting its annual Thanksgiving Sale. For those looking to stock up on winter wear, there’ll be great deals on last season’s products, including 40 per cent off select Icebreaker, Arc’teryx, Mons Royale and North Face apparel.  The location of the sale, which is a first-come, first-served basis, is the Lower Spirit Gallery in the Grouse Mountain Chalet. Hours of operation are: Friday until 7:30 p.m.; tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For all your last-minute Thanksgiving Day meal needs, take a stroll through the North Shore’s bevy of farmers’ markets. You’ll be able to find a variety of organic and conventional farm fare as well as prepared foods and crafts at the Lonsdale Quay Farmers’ Market tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and at the Ambleside Farmers’ Market, located at Ambleside Park at the foot of 13th Street, on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
