Lind Prize reception
The winner of the Philip B. Lind Emerging Artist Prize was announced at an opening reception and awards ceremony at the Polygon Gallery on May 21. Filmmaker Jessica Johnson took home the prize for her work Hazel Isle, a 14-minute documentary shot in Scotland that captures how the gradual loss of traditional language affects change in a rural community. Johnson received a $5,000 prize to be put toward producing a new project, which will be featured at an exhibition at the Polygon Gallery in 2020. Honourable mentions were given to artists Claire Geddes Bailey and Garnet Dirksen who were among 11 finalists for the award. Since 2016, the Lind Prize has been awarded annually to an artist working in film, photography or videography. The work of all finalists is on view at the Polygon until June 9. thepolygon.ca photos Kevin Hill, North Shore News
