The eighth annual District of North Vancouver Firefighters Charity Fishing Derby took place on Sept. 20 with more than 200 enthusiastic anglers taking to local waters in search of the biggest catch of the day. Just under 100 caught salmon made it to the 3 p.m. cutoff for weigh-in at North Vancouver’s Lions Gate Marina, with Tony Carnaby and crew taking top honours. Participants enjoyed a barbecue back on land as Capilano River Hatchery staff took DNA samples and checked for tagged fish to keep records on salmon conservation efforts. This year’s proceeds will go towards Athletes for Kids and the Seymour Salmonid Society. facebook.com/DNVfishingderby.
