B.C. reports no new deaths; end of outbreak at Langley Lodge

Three seniors' homes still have outbreaks: Holy Family Hospital, Maple Hill and Tabor
B.C. provincial health officer Bonnie Henry speaks with media

B.C. reported no new outbreaks of COVID-19 on July 3, but there were 13 new cases for a total of 2,947 cases of the virus that has caused a global pandemic since the disease first arrived in B.C. in late January.

One quirk was that B.C. removed six previously reported cases from its total becasue the individuals were identified as being from another province, and they will now be reported in their home province, which was not identified.

There were no new deaths recorded.

Of the infected people, 177 people have died, 2,608 people have recovered and 162 people are still battling the disease. While most people are self-isolating at home, 19 people are in hospital, with two of those in intensive care units. This is two more COVID-19 patients in hospital than there were yesterday.

The breakdown of all COVID-19 infections by health region is:
• 995 in Vancouver Coastal Health;
• 1,553 in Fraser Health;
• 132 in Island Health;
• 202 in Interior Health; and
• 65 in Northern Health.

One outbreak was declared over: Langley's Langley Lodge.

That leaves three long-term care facilities with active outbreaks:
• Abbotsford's Tabor long-term care home;
• Langley's Maple Hill long-term care home; and
• Vancouver's Holy Family Hospital.

There is also an outbreak at Mission Memorial Hospital, which spawned the outbreaks at Tabor and at Maple Hill, when infected patients were transferred to those homes from the hospital.

"While cases continue to occur in B.C., there are no active community outbreaks," B.C. provincial health officer Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said in a July 3 joint statement.

"We encourage British Columbians to show compassion and care to those around us. This is our opportunity to demonstrate how we can all stay safe this summer."
