A North Vancouver man who allegedly attacked an acquaintance with a knife on the weekend has been charged with attempted murder.

Mark Alexander Grueter, 33, appeared in provincial court Monday in relation to the late-night confrontation that sent another man to hospital with multiple stab wounds.

Police arrived at a home in the 3000-block of Institute Road at about 1 a.m. Saturday to find the 28-year-old victim bleeding from multiple puncture wounds. Witnesses told investigators another man had attacked him with a knife after the pair had got into an argument. The officers found Grueter nearby and arrested him. They recovered a weapon at the scene.

The victim was taken to Lions Gate Hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. His alleged attacker was also taken in for treatment, having suffered unspecified injuries in the altercation, according to police.

It’s unclear if alcohol was a factor in the incident.

Grueter remains in custody. He is scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing Friday.
