Windsor Dukes quarterback Ryan Baker, recently named the provincial AA MVP, justified the love Saturday in a big win over Vernon’s Clarence Fulton Maroons in the provincial quarterfinals at BC Place.

Baker threw for two touchdowns and rushed for two more as the Dukes sprinted to a 35-0 lead at halftime, on their way to a 49-13 win to book a ticket in the semifinals. Baker’s day included a 43- and 26-yard touchdown passes to Ben McMichael and a 27-yard score to Sean Werbowski.

He ended the day 11-14 in passing for 236 yards and three touchdowns, adding on 13 rushes for 177 yards and two scores. McMichael caught seven passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns.

Windsor’s also got a touchdown on a pitch from Baker to halfback Julien Perri, who then threw to Sean Werbowski for a 21-yard score.

The final score of the day for the Dukes came on a 10-yard rush from Ryan Werbowski.

The Dukes will now take on Chilliwack’s G.W. Graham Grizzlies on Saturday with a berth in the provincial final on the line. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. at BC Place.

While Windsor advanced, last weekend was the end of the road for the Argyle Pipers who fell 21-7 against the Grizzlies in Chilliwack on Friday. The score was tied 7-7 at halftime but the Grizzlies got two scores through the air in the second half to take the win.
