Soccer Blues fighting for gold this weekend

Both Capilano teams ranked No. 2 heading into provincial championships

The Capilano Blues men and women will both be looking to bounce one spot up the rankings at the PacWest soccer championships running this weekend at Quest University in Squamish.

Both Blues squad come into the championships as the No. 2 seeds, setting them up for tough semifinal clashes against the third-ranked PacWest teams.

The women, bronze medal winners last season, will be the first to hit the pitch as they’ll take on the Langara Falcons Friday at 5 p.m. The winner of that match will take on the winner of No. 1 Douglas vs. No. 4 Vancouver Island University Saturday at 7 p.m.

On the men’s side the Blues, two-time defending PacWest champs, will begin their three-peat bid with a semifinal against Douglas College on Saturday at 10 a.m. The winner of that matchup take on the winner of No. 1 VIU vs. No. 4 Quest in the gold medal match Sunday at 1 p.m.
