Some of the top golfers in British Columbia will be teeing off on one of the best courses in Canada Thursday and Friday as West Vancouver’s Capilano Golf and Country Club hosts the PGA of BC Championship.

The tournament is the premier event on the provincial association’s calendar, with nearly 100 golf pros vying for the prize pool of more than $30,000 in the 36-hole stroke play event.

The tournament will by the first PGA of BC event at Capilano since the 2009 Tournament of Champions.

North Vancouver sharp shooter Bryn Parry, who missed the cut by one stroke at last month’s Canadian Open, will be one of the headliners at the PGA of BC Championship. Parry has won the tournament three times (2000, 2008 and 2015), and with a fourth victory would tie Scott Minni for the most PGA of BC Championship titles in tournament history. Parry, a former instructor at Seymour Creek Golf Centre who is now the teaching instructor at Point Grey Golf and Country Club, will tee off Thursday at 9:10 a.m.

Other North Shore names to watch include five professionals with links to the host club: Capilano head pro Mark Thirtle, Greg Pool, Cory Draper, Ben McKendrick and 2005 PGA of BC Championship winner Mike Haraguchi. Other North Shore links taking part include Seymour Golf and Country Club’s Connor Rosenlund and Lenny Cyr; Larry Park and Sean Ko of Seymour Creek; and Dave Zibrik, another North Vancouver player who plies his trade at Point Grey.

Round 2 of the tournament will be played Friday with the leaders expected to tee off at around 12:20 p.m. The tournament is open to spectators, although guests will not have access to the Capilano clubhouse and will be required to follow the private club’s policies, including a “golf casual” dress code.
