Former Capilano Rugby Club and national team standout Jamie Cudmore announced on social media channels that he was retiring from competitive play.

The announcement came Sunday following the final game of the season for his club team, Oyonnax of France’s second division pro league. The Squamish native has done a lot for the Capilano club over the years, said current premier team player Glen McKinnon.

“He always has nothing but time for the boys,” he said. “Any time you talked to him he’d always seem to know exactly what was going on with the team. It’s so cool for a young guy just to have a mentor like that, a professional athlete watching an amateur league like that. So easy to talk to.”
