North Vancouver club also set to host 12th annual Evening at Ringside

There’s much to celebrate at North Vancouver’s Griffins Boxing Club this month, as three young fighters have brought back provincial medals just in time for the club’s annual Evening at Ringside Boxing Gala.

Emma Suttle and Jonathan Hannah won gold while Daniel Yelton earned silver at the 2018 Boxing B.C. Provincial Championship held Feb. 9-11 at the Quality Inn and Conference Centre in Abbotsford.

Suttle, age 14, got the party started by winning gold in the novice 54-kilogram female junior B division. Next up was Hannah, age 16, who claimed gold in the 69-kg youth male open class. Yelton, age 27, finished the tournament off by winning silver in the 81-kg senior elite male open class.

Both Hannah and Yelton will be represent Team B.C. at the National Championships next month in Edmonton.

“I could not be more proud of this team,” Griffins head coach Dave Brett stated in a release. “Everyone worked so hard, stuck to the plan and executed as a team. Proud coach moment. It was an outstanding performance from all seven of our athletes, Griffins Boxing Club is proud to claim three medals at the end of the tournament.”

The pugilistic party will continue Saturday, Feb. 24 when the club holds its 12th annual Evening at Ringside gala featuring live and silent auctions, music, dancing and, of course, boxing. The theme is Gangsters and Molls, so you best find your finest pinstriped suit and iron it out. Proceeds from the event go to Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver.
