North Vancouver’s Adam Zaruba will get another crack at the NFL after signing a futures contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 26-year-old Carson Graham grad has spent most of the past several years starring on the rugby pitch with the Canadian national sevens team and the North Shore’s Capilano Rugby Club, but earned an invite to training camp with the Eagles prior to this season. He didn’t make the final cut and was released by Philadelphia, but this new contract guarantees him a spot at training camp prior to the 2018 season.

At six-foot-five and more than 250-pounds, Zaruba certainly has the size and athletic ability to potentially make an impact on the football field despite his lack of playing time in that sport – before his preseason stint with the Eagles last year he hadn’t played an official gridiron game since his high school days. The Eagles obviously saw enough last year to bring him back for another look in 2018, and there’s also this impressive bit of evidence showing what Zaruba can do when a ball is up for grabs:

Zaruba reportedly will stay away from the rugby pitch over the next few months as he works on his football skills before heading to camp with the Eagles. Zaruba is also on the radar in the Canadian Football League, with the Saskatchewan Roughriders owning his negotiating rights.
