NORTH Vancouver's Morgan Weller won first place to claim the championship for her Arizona State Sun Devils in the women's 1-metre diving competition at the Pac-12 Championships held earlier this month in Washington.

Weller, a freshman, scored 334.35 on her finals dives to take the win, beating out runner-up Haley Ishimatsu of the University of Southern California by 20.20 points.

This is the first springboard championship the Sun Devils have won in eight years.

The three-day competition pitted her against athletes from powerhouse Pac-12 schools such as Stanford, UCLA and Arizona. Weller will now try her luck at the NCAA championships scheduled for March 21-13 in Indianapolis.
