Carson Graham Eagles senior boys AAA rugby team lost to Oak Bay 24-5 last weekend but still moved up to second in provincial rankings behind Shawnigan Lake School Stags.
St. George's School in Vancouver hosted the 19th annual B.C. Secondary Schools' Rugby Union Invitational 'Sevens' Tournament last weekend featuring 18 of B.C.'s top AAA and AA teams. Three North Shore schools were part of the mix with 2008 tournament champions West Vancouver Highlanders and Argyle Pipers participating along with the Eagles.
The Highlanders had the toughest assignment, drawing eventual winners Shawnigan Lake and Robert Bateman in opening round pool play while the Argyle Pipers, who won the Peter Clarke Trophy for most sportsmanlike team, made it to the semifinals where they lost to Earl Marriott 26-7.
Carson Graham won both games in pool play defeating Burnaby North 34-0 and Sir Charles Tupper 19-10. They eventually lost out to Oak Bay in the Bronze Medal game.
The Stags defeated Courtenay's G.P. Vanier 31-5 for the Gold. The Plate was lifted by Earl Marriott, the Bowl went to hosts St. George's and the Shield was captured by Robert Bateman. For full results visit www.bcssru.com.
